Tech Support Advisors
Job Description
Provide technical assistance to BSI Customers. Answer questions or resolve computer problems
in person, via telephone or from remote location.
May provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software,
including operating systems and associated broadcast equipment.
Detailed Work Activities:
Conduct training
Monitor operating conditions
Recommend software or hardware purchases
Assist co-workers with software problems
Consult with staff or users to identify operating procedure problems
Install hardware, software, or peripheral equipment at the company or customer's premises
Use computer networking technology
Communicate technical information
Follow data security procedures
Conduct computer diagnostics to determine nature of problems
Maintain or repair computers or related (including broadcast) equipment
Understand computer equipment operating manuals
Use computers to enter, access or retrieve data
Install computer programs
Provide technical computer training at a wide range of levels
Evaluate computer system user requests or requirements
Perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment
Evaluate prototype computer software systems
Follow data storage procedures
Monitor computer operation
Provide technical support at a wide range of levels to computer users
Use relational database software
Use spreadsheet software
Be prepared to train workers in use of computer and related equipment
Use word processing or desktop publishing software
Use interpersonal communication techniques
Test computer programs or systems
Use desktop publishing software
Tasks include:
Modify and customize commercial programs for internal needs.
Inspect equipment and read build order sheets to prepare for delivery to users.
Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cable,
operating systems, and appropriate software.
Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate
and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support.
Maintain record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action
taken, and installation activities.
Prepare evaluations of software or hardware, and recommend improvements or upgrades.
Enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors.
Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
Read trade magazines and technical manuals, and attend conferences and seminars to maintain knowledge of hardware and software.
Develop training materials and procedures, and/or train users in the proper use of hardware and software.
Supervise and coordinate workers engaged in problem-solving, monitoring, and installing broadcast equipment and software.
Answer users' inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.
Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.
The following skills are required:
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of the practical application of broadcast engineering and technology.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of radio broadcast systems.
Although not required for the position, the following skills are preferred:
Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
