Fighting Spam

Making Sure Emails Messages Get Through

You may have been directed to this site by a bounced email message, or because you do not believe you are receiving emails from BSI. The following page outlines the possible problems and potential remedies.

The Problem

Our mail servers receive more than one spam message every second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We filter out spam messages by checking against multiple real-time lists of known spammers, lists of computers that have been infected by spam sending software, we check that the email comes from a valid source and finally refuse emails with large file attachments.

Occassionally, these checks may filter out a legitimate message from you (perhaps because your ISP is being used by a spammer, your computer has been unknowingly infected and is being used to send out spam, or multiple people have complained that you appear to be sending them spam - perhaps as the result of a commercial mail shot).

Bounce Messages:

We will automatically return a bounce message for any emails we have blocked showing the source of the block and directing you to this page.

BSI has no control over the content of the lists and you should use the links below to find out why your email has been blocked. BSI will be only one of a number of organisations now refusing your email.

  • SPAMHAUS - www.spamhaus.org
  • NJABL - www.njabl.org
  • CBL - cbl.abuseat.org

Making Sure We Get Your Message

Getting removed from a block list can take some time and we recognise that at important times when you need Support, or if you ever have to request a new Validation Code, that it's essential to have a guaranteed way of making sure that we get your message.

This is why we have introduced our Support Ticket Center and our Validation Code Request systems which ensure we always get these important messages without delay.

Validation Code requests received weekdays between 9am and 5pm (Pacific) are usually fulfilled within 45 minutes providing you have provided all the correct information.

Our support technicians aim for respond to all tickets within an hour and you can log into the Support Ticket Center at any time and from any web browser to see if we have responded (in case you miss our courtesy email to tell you we have responded).

To get an urgent message to our Sales Team, please use the Contact Us link.

Using any of these systems will guarantee we get your message promptly.

Making Sure You Get Our Emails

Your radio station or ISP may also use some form of Spam Filtering similar to the system above, or perhaps you have your own solution. There may be occasions where this causes mail to you from BSI (including bounce messages) to fail.

If you suspect that you may not be getting emails from BSI, you can test by sending a blank email to: spamtest@bsiusa.com.

  • As soon as we receive your message, we will automatically return an email to you (usually within a couple of minutes).
  • If our system has labelled your email as spam, we will return a bounce message to you immediately.
  • If you fail to receive a reply, try emailing us from a different email account to see if that message is returned

In the event nothing is returned, please check your own anti-spam solutions including your email client's Junk Mail filter to make sure that emails from the @bsiusa.com domain are being accepted.

TIP: Free email services from Google/GMail, Hotmail, and Yahoo! etc are more often blocked by our spam filters and our emails to free email accounts are also less likely to get delivered promptly. Where possible you should avoid free email accounts.

Outlook Junk Email Filter

Adding BSI To Your Safe Senders List

This tip ensures your email client always receives mail from BSI, regardless of your other protection filters (this assumes that your ISP or radio station has not rejected our message first).

  • Right-Click any message in your Junk Mail folder and select Junk E-Mail > Junk E-Mail Options
  • Click the Safe Senders tab.
  • Click the Add button.
  • Enter @bsiusa.com in the space provided, then click OK
  • Click OK again to close the Junk E-mail Options.

Modifying Outlook Protection Level

  • On the Tools menu, click Options.
  • On the Preferences tab, under E-mail, click Junk E-mail.
  • Select the protection level that you want.

No protection Although this turns off the automatic Junk E-mail Filter, Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 will continue to evaluate messages by using domain names and e-mail addresses on your Blocked Senders List, and messages will continue to be moved to your Junk E-mail folder.

Low If you don't receive many junk e-mail messages and want to see all but the most obvious junk messages, you should select this option.

High If you receive a large volume of junk e-mail messages, you should select this option. However, you should periodically review the messages moved to your Junk E-mail folder, because some wanted messages may be moved there as well.

Safe Lists Only Any e-mail messages sent from someone not on your Safe Senders List or sent to a mailing list not on the Safe Recipients List will be treated as junk e-mail messages.

NOTE: Changing the protection level is not available if you are using an Exchange Server e-mail account and working online.
